This is the second time in three days that the mercury has plunged to 4 degrees Celsius -- the lowest temperature in the last four years.

Delhi ites shivered on Saturday as the mercury once again dipped to 4 degrees Celsius. This is the second time in three days that the mercury has plunged to 4 degrees Celsius — the lowest temperature in the last four years.

The fall in temperature is due to cold wave conditions prevailing over northwest India, the Meteorological Department said. The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 4 degrees, four notches below the season’s average, it said.

The mercury had touched the 4-degree Celsius mark on Thursday as well. The humidity level at 8.30 AM on Saturday was recorded at 97 per cent.

IGNOU launches certificate in Spanish language and culture programme

IGNOU has launched certificate programme in Spanish Language and Culture.

admission process is in progress and the last date for enrolling for the programme is January 15, 2019.

The Certificate in Spanish Language and Culture is a tightly structured multimedia integrated bilingual programme (Spanish and English). The contact sessions are a very important aspect of this programme which will be conducted at designated Study Centers of IGNOU on weekends. In order to be eligible for the same, you should have passed Class 12 or equivalent and should possess some knowledge of English.

Vikash Kumar Singh, coordinator of the programme said that Spanish is the second-most widely spoken language in the world, spoken by approximately 500 million people, and it is the second largest language in the United States. It’s an official language in four continents and is the mother tongue in 21 countries, spanning South, Central and North America, as well as Africa and “In a globalized world with multilingual societies, those speaking Spanish language will have the edge as it will not only provide them with the ability to communicate with Spanish speakers but will also greatly enhance their resume in the world of work,” said Prof Anju Sahgal Gupta, Director-School of Foreign Languages, IGNOU.

Vikash Kumar Singh, the coordinator of the Spanish language programme, further informed that as per an Instituto Cervantes report 10% of the world population will speak Spanish. So you can imagine the usefulness of this language.

The 45-year-old fashionista says the coming of international brands in the country has made the fashion industry a more organised place.“Fashion has become a business now. Earlier there was no structure in the fashion industry. It was more haphazard. But now I believe with professionals, various labels and companies coming to the country, the focus has shifted to the business aspect of fashion,” Malaika said. The VJ-turned-actor, who was one of the jury members at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019 female models auditions, said if she had mentors during her initial days in the showbiz, she would have had a better sense of direction. “I believe if I have had the kind of mentorship these young models are getting, I would have had a better sense of direction. When I started out, I just figured things with time. I was like a fish out of the water. I used to follow my guts and nobody was there to guide. But it also had a good side to it. It made me more independent,” she said.

Along with Malaika, designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil, show director Anu Ahuja, Head of Innovations, Lakme - Ashwath Swaminathan and Vice President and Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance - Jaspreet Chandok, were also part of the jury. Malaika said she appreciated the LFW’s efforts to give a platform to new talent every season. “The idea of bringing new faces every season is amazing. There are so many aspiring models out there and that’s the only way we are going to give them the chance. It’s a great platform.” Lakme Fashion WeekSummer/Resort 2019 will take place from January 30 to February 3. The five-day extravaganza will return to JioGarden, Bandra-Kurla Complex for the season.
